About us
Welcome and thank you for visiting Big Bear Trailers & Outdoor – Trailers for Sale, Service and Hire. We work with the top trailer brands to offer trailers for sale at our premises based just outside Peterborough. We hope you find what you are looking for, but if you don’t, please tell us. We are a small business and we care. Through listening to our customers we have expanded our product range extensively, but the core ethos of the business remains the same – Quality Products and Great Service .
We are a family run business (Ian, Kate ably supported by Tabby, Emma and in the workshop Craig, Phil and Andy) based in Oundle, Northamptonshire. The impetus for the business came from nearly losing Kate to Stage 4 (Advanced) Lymphoma in 2014. We had two very young daughters at the time. Following our experience, there was a strong push (kick) to look at things differently and a real desire to be more local for us all – Big Bear was born!

After a couple of calls and speaking to Ian, and me twisting his arm a bit, I drove 85 miles to view the trailer, I was not dissapointed at all, advert was spot on, James sorted us out, shown us around, paid the money, hooked up and home! perfect, honest, and I would highly recommend these guys. If your thinking about getting a trailer you can't go wrong at Big Bear.We wanted a trailer for our fishing gear but had no idea what type of trailer or size we needed. I found Big Bear on the Internet and decided to have a look. We met Ian who is very helpful answering all our questions and allowed us to look around with no preasure what so ever to buy, and came away with all the information we needed. With a big thank you to Ian we collected our Brenderup 1205xl with everything from spare wheel, locks and number plates. We’ve hired a trailer every year now for about 3 years. Always had great service no issues with collecting and returning. One year we had a mishap and needed to repair the trailer. All was done as cheaply as possible and some of our deposit was returned back to us. Very fair indeed

This company is really good to deal with, a really good customer experience. As a buyer in my work time, I know the difference in the scale of excellent to poor. Enquired about purchasing a trailer via enquiry form. Received a prompt reply from Ian, which I followed up with a phone call. Ian was very friendly on the phone and answered my questions, including addressing my concerns about paying balance via bank transfer before seeing the trailer.Upon collection, Ian was very welcoming and considerate. He had the trailer ready to go including number plate. He explained features, documentation and hitching to the car. Very pleased with the trailer and purchase experience. A great experience. Ian was available to give us some advice and then pull together a trailer package that was exactly what we needed. We bought a trailer for camping with bike attachments on top, and being new to towing, really appreciated the friendly tips we received before towing away. Totally worth a day trip to pick it up. Bought a new horse trailer from Big Bear, what a terrific experience. I went to Big Bear with a roof box emergency. Ian tried so hard to help me, but alas my gear was a much older generation of box. He did however provide me with all the info I needed with part numbers etc and even suggested another dealership to try. Thank you so much for all your help. I would happily recommend Big bear.

Very friendly staff and they set me up with a rental trailer, number plates and any paperwork I could require whilst travelling abroad.They also gave me the option to call if I had any issues and offered to talk me through every step.I will be using their services again.

A couple of years ago I bought Thule roof rails, bike supports and a roof box from Ian at Big Bear. At the time I was really pleased with the design and build of the Thule products. Everything worked great and loads were always super-stable. Two years on I’m even more impressed. Everything still looks and works like new, in spite of frequent, heavy use during lockdown and since. Big Bear’s products and service are all top drawer.

Just collected our Anssems GT 750 211 HT trailer yesterday.We found their service very good. Rang up prior to buying the trailer and had good discussion on what is best for us. Very helpful and answered all the questions we had as well as provided a complete service by providing and fitting a spare wheel, hitch lock, on car lock, roof rack and number plate.Our pick-up was very smooth with demonstration on how to hitch and test the hitch of the trailer. The handover was completed with a thorough check of all the lights on the trailer.Thanks Ian for your efficient service and handover, not to mention the useful YouTube videos we watched prior to choosing our trailer. 👍👍

Wonderful service from the guys at Big Bear Trailers today. I needed a trailer super quickly just before a family camping trip and Big Bear saved the day, putting a trailer through their workshop on a Friday afternoon at very short notice so I could collect it on Saturday. The purchase and handover process was really easy and informative and I'm now the proud owner of an Anssems GT750 201 VT1. I'll definitely be back for the inevitable bike racks...thanks again guys!

Ive been thinking about a bigger trailer recently due to my part time work taking off. I did a Google search and these people are quite local. From the initial email to pick up the service was faultless, even with my slight issue with my car in the garage and not knowing when i was going to pick the trailer up. Very knowledgeable and friendly staff where nothing was too much trouble. On collection the trailer was waiting, everything including the paperwork was there, i was hitched up and off!! Fingers crossed for many years service.

I recently purchase an Anssems trailer from Big Bear Outdoors / Trailers.Their customer service is not only friendly & welcoming, but also first class.Very knowledgeable & very helpful. I received a full explanation of the trailer & all the information needed for hitching / unhitching, security & also good advice around basic safe towing. Advice on care & maintenance & what to do in the unlikely event I have any issues.I can honestly say, if you’re looking to purchase a trailer, make this place your first call.The trailer itself is an Anssems GT750 211HT.I towed it home empty behind a 2019 Hyundai Tucson 4WD. It behaved impeccably. Zero noise & no bouncing around. I had to look in the rear view mirror to remind myself there was a trailer attached!It’s perfectly sized behind the Tucson, big enough to hold an absolute mountain of camping gear, big enough to see where the back of the trailer is in the rear view mirror (very handy for reversing!) but not that big that it blocks any view at all or you feel that you’ve got a big lump dragging along behind you!And without doubt, the quality of build is superb.I don’t think I could have made a better choice with the trailer & am more than happy that I bought from Big Bear.

Purchased trailer from this company, sent driver to pickup, but I was supplied with the incorrect trailer from what I ordered over the phone. They managed to confuse the situation with model numbers that made no sense to us and said that we ordered the incorrect trailer which we never did. Not sure if this company's customer service is up to much. Be aware.UPDATE:Second time we purchase from this company, now we understand exactly what we are purchasing and this is what they provided. The young girl who assisted us was very helpful and informative, would now recommend.

Hire
Trailer Hire from Big Bear Trailers & Outdoor includes box trailers, car and motorbike transport trailers, horse trailers and general utility trailers. Trailer hire is offered on day hire, long weekend hire and we are also able to offer long term hire rates. Trailers will need to be collected and returned to our location in Oundle Marina, Northamptonshire.
Servicing
We offer servicing and repairs from our Oundle Marina premises. Our engineers are trained by the NTTA and we are fully insured. We service and repair all makes and models of trailers including Anssems, Bateson, Brendeup, Brian James, Cheval Liberte, Debon, Ifor Williams and Woodford. Recent repairs have included a simple full brake rebuild on a car trailer, through to a full rebuild of a horse trailer, including two new sides, a new aluminium floor and a new rear ramp.
